Here is a chocolatey treat for the whole family can help create!
There are a few great options for spread with lower sugar, but we love
roasting our own hazelnuts and making our own.
Hazelnut and chocolate spread:
Set your oven to 350 degrees and spread 4 cups of hazelnuts on a cookie sheet, once the oven is ready, roast the nuts for 12 minutes. They should be golden and will smell delicious!
Using clean kitchen towels, spread one towel on the counter or table and pour the
warm hazelnuts on the towel. Then, top with another towel (or two!) and let the kids rub the
hazelnuts between the towels to remove the skins. This is good, messy fun. Be sure to be mindful
of the warmth, the fragrance, and the golden color.
In a double boiler, melt 1 1/2 cups of dark chocolate slowly.
Puree the hazelnuts in a food processor or blender. Add melted chocolate, 2
tsp. vanilla, and ½ tsp. of sea salt (optional). Blend until smooth to create
your own 3 cup container of spread!
For each smoothie, blend:
1 cup of almond milk
2 1/2 T. of hazelnut and chocolate spread
1 T. dark cocoa
1 banana
Top with a whipped topping, shaved chocolate, or berries! Enjoy!
